Description: Beautiful vintage gold filled oval locket that is hand engraved with a whimsical floral and swirling vine design, the raised emblem of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and crowned with a fancy filigree top and a decorative fanned bale. This circa mid century locket has both a wonderful etched design and the colored enamel to make it an eye catching necklace indeed. It was most likely once owned by someone who was married to, or served themselves, as a Mountie in Canada.

A spectacular turn-of-the-century locket from the American locket maker Wightman & Hough. The company started in the mid-1800s and their last record dates to 1922. They were known for their lockets, which were widely advertised and widely loved. Their slogan was, There's a heart in every locket! - referring literally to their maker's mark, but also metaphorically to the sentimental nature of lockets themselves.

(See note below about PASTE.) The front of this vintage locket features 3 round faceted paste stones and two seed pearls set along the very top of the heart shape in the two lobes of the heart. At the very center top of this heart shape is an etched flower.
